Moving from Primary to Secondary School: A Significant Step
Transitioning from primary school to secondary school is one of the biggest milestones in a child's life—and a significant moment for parents too. At Kirton Academy, we understand that this change can feel daunting. Your child might be moving to a school further from home, with earlier starts, later finishes, and a whole new building to navigate. They may also find that not all of their friends are moving with them.
Our goal is to make this transition as smooth and reassuring as possible for both students and parents. We are excited to welcome new members to the Kirton Academy community, where we know they'll quickly feel at home and thrive in an environment committed to educational excellence.
Welcoming You to Kirton Academy
We encourage all parents and children to visit us for additional tours of the academy, either during the school day or after school hours—whichever suits you best. These tours offer an opportunity to explore the school and ask any questions you might have.
Once your Year 6 child has been offered a place, they will be invited to attend our Transition Day. For those who may benefit from additional support, we also offer an extra transition day to help ease any worries and build confidence. Rest assured; all the details will be shared with you in advance.
Support and Guidance
At Kirton Academy, your child will meet their form tutor, who will remain with them from Year 7 through to the end of Year 10. This tutor is more than just a familiar face—they are your child's personal guide and a key point of contact for parents. Think of them as your very own VIP, dedicated to helping both you and your child settle into secondary school life.
For students who have additional needs or may feel anxious about starting secondary school, our dedicated SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) team plays a vital role in the transition process. They work closely with students to ensure they feel confident, included, and supported as they join our community.
