Transition FAQs
If your son/daughter is in Year 6, you can apply for a place at secondary school, submitting your application by the deadline of 31 October.
If you live in Lincolnshire you can apply via Lincolnshire County Council.
If you live in North Lincolnshire you can apply via North Lincolnshire Council.
Please visit our Admissions (link to Admissions) page for further information.
Even if you live in catchment, you must still apply for a place. Living in close proximity to any school does not guarantee a place there unless you have submitted an application form, as mentioned above. If you do not apply to any school by 31 October, you will be allocated a place at any school in the local authority which has space at that time.
Every year, we host an open evenings we also actively support you to have a personal tour of the school, to do this contact enquiries@kirtonacademy.co.uk or call 01652 648276 to book a date and time.
We have two blocks with upper floors, one which can be accessed by lift. We are in the process of making adaptations to the school to make it more accessible to all students.
Our dedicated SEND team work hard to help children with additional needs to get the support they need when they come up to secondary school, whether this is in helping them get to lessons, giving extra support during lessons or offering a quiet and safe space when a child may need time out of lessons. The SEND team are always happy to talk to families about their child’s individual needs and can offer one-to-one tours, as well as extra transition days once your child has accepted a place with us.
Please contact our SEND team directly via SEND@kirtonacademy.co.uk if you have further questions.
Many of our students walk or cycle to school. However, there are also several buses which serve the local surrounding villages and towns. To find out more about bus services and how to apply for a place on the bus, please see our Transport page. Please note if you live out of catchment area and require bus travel there is a cost which is currently £60 per month, this is reviewed annually.

We currently use the online payment platform ParentPay to pay for all items in school. When your child joins our school we will send you all the information on how to create an account or how to link to an account you already have.
If you would like to claim for Free School Meals for your child please visit the Free School Meals application page. From September 2025 all payments will move to our Bromcom system.
We use a system called Bromcom. Parents are required to download the My Child At School app, this is the platform where all communication to and from the school takes place, you can see live information on your child’s attendance, timetable, receive reports and pay for dinners and other activities. It is vital that the school has your email address to allow you to register.
If you have a question about applying to the school, please get in touch via enquiries@kirtonacademy.co.uk or call 01652 648276 and someone from our admissions team will get back to you.
