Significant year-on-year improvements in high-grade outcomes were celebrated at Kirton Academy.

GCSE outcomes increased by 8.5% in English and Maths and 8% in science. 100% attained a strong pass (grade 5 or higher) for all three sciences.

Principal Emma Ricketts said the increased numbers recording Grade 7 or above provided further evidence of improvement.

Biology increased dramatically by 49%, Chemistry by 30% and Physics by 37%. English Language, Maths, History and Hospitality and Catering showed rapid improvements.

The school also recorded an increase in the proportion of students achieving the very highest Grade 9 in several subjects including Biology, Chemistry, French, Hospitality and Catering and Sports Science.

Mrs Ricketts said: “These results are a tremendous achievement for our students and staff.

“I am particularly proud of the significant improvement at the highest end of attainment.

“Seeing more of our students achieving Grades 7, 8 and 9 is a clear indication of the ambition we have for every young person at Kirton Academy and the high-quality education we are determined to provide.”

Kirton Academy is quickly becoming a school of choice, with a rapidly increasing number of students choosing to attend.

“This growth reflects the confidence that families are placing in our school and our commitment to providing the education that every student deserves,” said Mrs Ricketts.

“We are building a school where students are supported to achieve their very best and where high expectations are matched by genuine opportunities to succeed.

“I am immensely proud of all of our Year 11 students and everything they have achieved.

“They have worked incredibly hard, and these results are testament to their determination, resilience and commitment.

“I wish every one of them the very best as they take the next step on their journey, and I hope they leave Kirton Academy feeling proud of what they have accomplished and excited about what comes next.”

Isla Myers celebrated a host of excellent results, including two 9 grades and six 8s, and is going on to study A Levels in Maths, Geography and Biology at John Leggott Sixth Form College.

“I’m feeling relieved,” she said. “I’m particularly shocked at getting a 9 in French – I was predicted a 7! I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time at Kirton Academy; I really liked the teachers and have had a great time.”

Joseph Dawson also collected a stellar set of results, including seven 8s and one 9, as proud parents Adam and Alex looked on. He will be studying A Levels in Maths, Geography and Biology at John Leggott Sixth Form College in September.

“I would like to study a degree in geography and go on to become a teacher,” he said. “I’ve definitely been inspired by the teachers I’ve had here; they’ve all been really good.”

Mum Alex added: “Joe’s been very calm and chilled; I’m the one getting emotional! We’re so proud; he’s worked so hard and really deserves this. The support he’s had from the school has been amazing and the support, stability and culture here are all absolutely brilliant.”

Also celebrating was Lyla-Rai Jones, who achieved an 8 in History – Kirton Academy’s best result in the subject in four years. She also gained a host of 7s in Biology, Chemistry and Physics, as well as 6s in English Language and Maths.

Describing herself as “completely shocked”, she said: “I can’t believe it. I only expected to get a 7 in History, I never thought I would do this well.”

Lyla-Rai, who is going on to John Leggott Sixth Form to study A Levels in Maths, Biology and History, added: “I’ve enjoyed school a lot. I enjoy learning about things and the teachers have been great; they’ve really helped me.

“It’s been nice to have a goal to work towards and these results have helped me believe in myself.”
